Sevā: Sponsor a Bhakti Yoga Class
“Seva is something that you do for others, for society without expecting anything in return, not even a thanks.” - Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar
Every faith and holy book talks about giving:
Zakat
Tithes
Alms
Sadaqa
Agape
Tzedakah
Dana
Charity is a fundamental part of the spiritual path, charity is Divine Love.
According to the Bhagavad Gita, seva is a way to purify one's heart and mind and to attain self-realization. It is considered an essential part of the path of Karma Yoga, which is one of the four paths of yoga described in the Gita.
Today, even Effective Altruism has grown in popularity. Effective Altruism was formalized by scholars at Oxford University, but has now spread around the world, and is being applied by tens of thousands of people In more than 70 countries.
Seva comes from the heart. It is not a compulsion for anybody – it’s not that you have to do it, but you want to do it.…The greatest reward in seva is the contentment and happiness that you feel within, that you get an opportunity to serve someone. That is the greatest happiness one can ever get, to make someone happy. - Science of the Soul
THE WHAT:
Seva: Sponsor a Bhakti Yoga Class
THE INSPIRATION FOR THIS PROJECT:
As I return to the dharma of sharing my yoga practice and of bringing my expression of the Bhakti practice to open hearts in Paris, I realize that the cost of practicing yoga today makes it a luxury rather than easily accessible for most if not all of us - this is heartbreaking for me.
When I began teaching on Sundays in February, I found a beautiful private studio in the center of Paris to rent by the hour to keep the personal cost to a minimum. And, I started to invite women to a complimentary, gifted class as my own personal seva and karma yoga.
The classes have been full each week, with eleven open and happy hearts. So many of these women are saying yes to their very first yoga class, to singing and moving and breathing in a new and different way. It feels so, so good.
As I feel into the beautiful gifts of my own giving, I feel inspired to open this invitation for others to feel it too.
THE INVITATION FOR YOU:
This is a personal and intimate invitation of seva for you. This is an invitation for you to sponsor the space, the hearts and/or the teacher (me) for a class.
THE DETAILS:
The sponsorship choices are:*
Sponsoring The Space, which covers the cost of the private studio rental of $68 for 90-minutes
Sponsoring The Hearts, which covers the cost of the 11 students filling the room ($15 per student for $165)
Sponsoring The Teacher, which covers the cost of teaching time for me at a rate of $100
* You can sponsor as many spaces, hearts and teacher hours as you’d like. There is a form at Check-Out which asks you to choose the date(s) of available classes.
THE EXTRAS:
The giving (in and of itself) is the gift for you and for others, however if any of these extras give you a tingle they are included too:
We will sing to you, literally, from the center of Paris as “the sponsor” of the class.
You will receive the Spotify playlist for the class that you sponsor
You will ALWAYS be welcome to attend any future class I teach as a thank you
A tax receipt of your sponsorship is available upon request
Your sponsorship makes it possible for me to give in bigger ways, your sponsorship is touching the lives of others for the better, your sponsorship is Divine Love, true seva, and I am forever grateful to you. I promise not to take it lightly, and to make the most of it.
I love you.
